Preparing for an SWBTracker Upgrade
SWBTracker Version Upgrades provide new features and more stability than previous versions, and
the upgrade process has been simplified to make it as seamless and transparent as possible. However, it is still
important to follow some simple guidelines to help make your own upgrade process run smoothly:
It is absolutely imperative that you make a complete backup of your SWBTracker data files before you install and run a new version upgrade.
SWBTracker will modify your data files by adding new fields to support new features, and any computer or power problems during this process
could render your data files useless. In fact, we recommend that you back up your SWBTracker data files as part of your daily backup regimen.
As a minimum precaution, copy your current data files to another directory on your hard drive or server immediately before you begin the upgrade process.
You can reduce the chance of data file problems during the upgrade by running a verification on your data files prior to the upgrade. You can do this by
downloading and running our file verify and repair utility (you only need to run the verify portion at this point) at any time. To download this utility,
click here if you are using SWBTracker Version 7.1 or earlier. To download the repair utility for
SWBTracker Version 7.2 or newer, click here. Please copy your data files to your local hard drive before
running this utility to verify them.
While we have tried to make the upgrade process as transparent as possible, you should try to schedule your upgrade for a time that is not critical to
your development or testing schedule, just in case you encounter any difficulties. You will be required to download and install the newest version
on each of your workstations. The installation process should only require about 5 minutes per workstation.
The first time you run the SWBTracker upgrade installation, it will automatically update your data files to work with the new
version. This process may take several minutes to complete, depending on the size of your SWBTracker data files, however, in most cases it should not
require more than 5 or 10 minutes for even larger size databases. Keep in mind that no one should be running SWBTracker during this update process.
Once the first SWBTracker workstation has installed the upgrade, you can expect the other workstation installations to complete
more quickly as the data conversion portion will not be performed on subsequent workstation installations.
By following these simple steps, you can ensure that your upgrade process will go as smoothly as possible. If you are unsure about performing any of these
steps, please contact us at
